Rare Sheffield folding lockback dirk with extended blade. Approx. 15-1/4” overall (open) and 10-3/4” overall (closed), with a blade of 10” double-edged dagger blade with a median ridge. Ricasso is over-stamped “A.W. Spies”, an early American importer and outfitter. The blade shows good edges and one small nick, with patches and light pitting, and is slightly lazy when closing. The blade locks with a slight wobble in the locked position. The hilt shows double cast German silver crossguards. Stag scales with four early iron bird-head rivets. Milled brass liners. German silver escutcheon plate with ends missing. Period replaced tip sheath with German silver clip. This particular model was only produced for about ten years as an early alternative to the sword cane. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est: $700 - $1,400
