Rare Serial Number 308 DWM Model 1923 Dutch Contract Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent example of a super rare and very early Model 1923 Dutch Contract Luger manufactured by DWM. These early Dutch Lugers are extremely rare in their own right as most were sent to the Dutch East Indies where they saw heavy use in the tropics, and were later captured by the Japanese at the start of WWII. This is not the same as the later Dutch Banner Lugers made in the late 1930s or those manufactured by Vickers Ltd. This model was the very first Dutch Contract and it is estimated that less than 1,000 were made, with only 34 reported in collections today. It has been reported that this model had the last two digits of the serial number stamped on top of the breechblock and left side of the barrel extension. This example is so early in the production that only the left side of the barrel extension numbered "08". It has a blank chamber area with the "DWM" markings on the toggle and the correct "GELADEN" markings on both sides of the extractor. It has the correct "RUST/arrow" markings above the safety lever. The left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel and the left side of the breechblock are marked with a single early "Crown/N" firing proof. It is numbered in the commercial fashion with the full serial number on the underside of the barrel and frame with the last two digits on the side plate, takedown lever, trigger and rear toggle. Fitted with a set of standard checkered walnut grips and has an unmarked nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base.

Very fine. The pistol retains 80% plus of the faded arsenal blue finish showing some edge and high spot wear and the grip straps are thinning to a smooth brown patina. 70% of the straw color remains on the various small parts. The grips are fine with moderate wear on bottom right panel, a few pressure dents and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
