Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1923
This is an excellent example of a super rare, very early 1923 Dutch Contract Luger that was manufactured by DWM. These early Dutch Lugers are extremely rare in their own right as most were sent to the Dutch East Indies, where they saw heavy use in the tropics, and were later captured by the Japanese at the start of WWII. This is not the same as the later Dutch Banner Lugers made in the late 1930s or those produced by Vickers Ltd.; this model was the very first Dutch Contract and it is estimated that less than 1,000 total were made, with only "34" reported in collections today. It has been reportedly that this model had the last two digits of the serial number, stamped on top of the breechblock and left side of the barrel extension. This example is so early in the production, that only the left side of the barrel extension is numbered (08). It has a blank chamber area with the "DWM" markings on the first toggle and has the correct "GELADEN" markings on "both sides" of the extractor that was left blued not polished, and it has the correct "RUST" markings up and behind the safety lever. The left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel and the left side of the breechblock are all marked with a single early "Crown/N" firing proof. It is numbered in the commercial fashion with the full serial number on the underside of the barrel and frame with the last two digits on the side plate, takedown lever, trigger and rear toggle. This pistol is fitted with a set of standard walnut grips, a unmarked nickel plate magazine that has a unmarked wooden base.
