This is a desirable example of a pre-war Mauser training rifle with "SS" proof marks in the stock. These rifles were all manufactured in the mid to late 1930s and were the primary training rifle as used by all German forces, Wehrmacht, Kreigsmarine, Luftwaffe and SS. This specific rifle has the "RFSS" 3/4 inch circular stock proof stamped on the right side below the takedown disc. This proof is associated with the Reichsfuhrer SS training school and these rifles were intended to simulate the weight and feel of the standard 98K rifle. The top of the barrel is marked with the Mauser Banner logo and the left side is marked "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF A.N." and it has the correct "Crown over B" and "U" proofs ahead of the serial number. The right rear side is marked "DEUTSCHES SPORTMODELL" and the rear of the barrel is marked "KAL 22 LANG FUR BUCHSEN", serial number and it also has the correct Crown over "B", and "U" and "G" proofs. The upper left side of the receiver has been drilled and tapped for scope mounting. The stock is the one piece walnut version that is fitted with a flat sheet metal buttplate and takedown washer through the butt. It is fitted with an original leather sling designed for these rifles. Made to resemble a 98 Mauser with a front sight blade and a 200 meter military style rear tangent sight. Complete with a cleaning rod.
