Rare Pre-War Experimental, Gustloff-Werke Semi-Automatic Pistol
Experimental, semi-automatic, double-action pocket pistol developed in 1939 by Gustloff-Werke of Schul. Development of the pistol was promoted by Fritz Sauckel, Gauleiter of Thuringia and founder of Gustloff-Werke. The pistol combines elements of the Walther Mod. PP and the Sauer Mod. 38. The Gustloff-Werke pistol was considered as a possible replacement service pistol for the NSDAP and SS. Prototype pistols were presented to Hitler and Himmler. However, the outbreak of WWII created shortages of labor and materials and the production of the pistol never progressed beyond the experimental stage of development. Material included with the pistol states that fewer than 100 of these pistols were manufactured. The pistol has a military, rust blue finish and has two-piece, checkered, walnut grips. The pistol has an internal hammer, sliding safety on the left side of the frame and frame-mounted magazine release. There are shallow grip serrations on both sides of the slide. The top of the slide has a raised, serrated sight rib with a blade front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. The pistol has flared grip strap and magazine floor plate. The left side of the frame is pantagraphed with a stylized "G" above the two-line legend: "GUSTLOFF-WERKE/WAFFENWERK SCHUL". The bright finished barrel chamber is stamped: "Kal.7.65 mm". The serial number "1152" is stamped on the left side of the frame above the trigger. "Eagle/N" proofmarks are stamped on the right rear of the slide and frame and on the right side of the barrel at the muzzle. The left grip has a relief carved "G" in a circle near the base.

Excellent. The pistol retains 95% of the original military blue finish. Wear is mostly limited to minor finish loss on high points with some scattered and very minor spots of surface. The grips are in excellent condition with sharp checkering and minimal handling wear. The markings are crisp. This is an excellent example of a rare Pre-WWII German experimental automatic pistol.
