Pre-Stamp Cover, Ship Letter, 8 Annas, 1860, Bombay to Marib, dispatched from Bombay with Black four-lined rectangle seal as “BOMBAY | SHIP COVER | 18 (60?) | Bearing 8 As.”, value is hand endorsed outside the seal in Red ink mss ‘8As.’ denotes 8 Annas. Sender’s and receiver’s addresses are in Arabic, Black circular seal on the back side citing “BOMBAY | ? 1 FE | 1860”. Hijri Year 1276 mss in Arabic, two wax seals of red color are applied to secure the gluing of the cover (probably it was insured), very good condition, Rare.
Note: According to its historical significance, Marib was a relatively small and insignificant town. In this period, Yemen, including the region around Marib, was under the control of the Ottoman Empire.
