Rare Photograph of Fort Sumter Officers,
Rare Photograph of Fort Sumter Officers,<p>smaller size (circa 3 x 4") albumen mounted on board depicting the “Officers of the Garrison of Fort Sumter” and so identified in period ink. The officers are front row: Capt. A. Doubleday, Major Robert Anderson, Surgeon S.W. Crawford, Capt. J.G. Foster; back row: bvt. Capt. T. Seymour, Lt. G.W. Snyder, Lt. J. C. Davis, 2nd Lt. R.K. Meade, Jr. and Lt. T. Talbot. The original photograph was taken shortly before the bombardment of the fort commenced. Lt. Talbot was permitted to leave Ft. Sumter and journey to Washington to receive President Lincoln’s announcement that the garrison would be resupplied, but not reinforced. Governor Pickens prevented Talbot from rejoining the garrison. Another officer, Lt. Norman Hall, was on duty when the photograph was taken. The original plate was damaged at the time and this historic copy suffers transitional loss added to the effects of age and handling.FALSE
