Rare Pecare and Smith pepperbox pistol, four-shot, .28 cal., 2-1/2” barrel group marked “Cast Steel” and “Patent 1849”, engraved frame, wood grips, #13. This gun is in overall good condition showing a brown patina overall with scattered areas of erosion on the barrel and frame; two of the percussion nipples are long missing; the engraving is simple in design and confined to the frame; the action needs adjustment and the grips are worn but good with some knackering to the bottom of each grip. Any Pecare and Smith is desirable to collectors and the “pocket” size variation is particularly hard to find. Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
