Rare Pauly signed double barrel shotgun showing patent cartridge ignition and unique hinged action circa 1st quarter of the 19th century. Pauly was one of the very 1st successful inventors of viable cartridges and this shotgun is beautifullysigned in gold scripts on barrels and on both sides of the action. The metal surfaces show a light gray patina finish with some scattered light to moderate erosion and minor pitting. The stocks are good with some even wear and normal age. Thebarrel shows considerable gold inlay at breech and barrel maker’s marks. The gun measures 46” overall with approximately 30” barrels of 20 gauge. Pauly was considered among the finest of French gun makers and was 20 years ahead of mostof his European contemporaries in the design of cartridge arms. Est.: $8000-$16,000
