Very rare card to admit JF Owens to the hanging execution of James Pollard, supervised by JB Reynolds, MD , in St. Joseph, June 1897. Pollard, a black man, had accidentally killed Joseph Irwin, another black man, when he was trying to kill Dave Irwin. The bullet had missed Dave and hit Joseph in the neck. He had died the next day. Pollard had escaped the scene of the crime but was apprehended several months later at Gallatin.The pass is signed by James Hull, sheriff for Buchanan County, MO. JF Owen was a jail physician. 2.25 x 4" on cardstock. Comes with newspaper article printouts detailing the crime and execution.
