Rare Newbury .22 caliber single-shot derringer, engraved with pearl grips, serial number “75”. The derringer measures only approx 4” overall with 2” barrel, mounted with extractor. Refer to The Deringer in America by Doug Eberhart, page 131-133. Only a handful of engraved and pearl gripped Newbury derringers are known to collectors and this example is especially rare with an extractor. The derringer shows light scroll engraving on barrel and backstrap and approx. 75-85% dulling blue finish on the barrel. Frame has gone to patina with traces of gold gilt. The pistol is fitted with period pearl grips which show iridescent hues and are in very good condition. Several knowledgeable derringer collectors estimate only 100 of these derringers produced and no more than half a dozen exampled are known engraved, and about three with pearl. This is the only known example engraved with pearl and the rare extractor. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
