Rare New York engraved Richard Mason conversion of 1860 Army Colt, with iron backstrap and trigger guard, short address, 2-line patent dates, serial #6566, with loading gate and ejector rod housing andactually manufactured as a cartridge pistol prior to the marking of the single action Colt. Very few engraved Richard Masons are known and we have not cataloged one in decades. The revolver shows fancy Nimschkestyle scrolls with typical geometric borders and motifs. The engraving is of a deluxe nature and would be rated as C+ to D if in the single action grades. The revolver shows original to-the-period one-piece checkeredivory grips; the metal surfaces show traces of original nickel with some light cleaning going to natural metal patina. The markings are sharp, and approximately 75-85% light original cylinder scene remains. The gripsshow a dark patina, some cracking and aging. All matching visible serial numbers, good action, good bore, good overall with some scattered light to moderate pitting. The engraving is very similar to deluxe engraved
