A fine example of Native American weaving, this single saddle blanket features a striking central panel woven in a complex twill weave pattern using hand-spun wool. The dynamic, repeating geometric design is rendered in rich hues of orange, white, and black/dark brown. The central field is bordered by a vibrant red panel at both the top and bottom, adorned with traditional "cross" or "swastika" motifs, which are traditional Navajo designs.
Historically, Navajo twill weavings were highly valued trade items, known for their durability, warmth, and resistance to water. This piece exhibits excellent artistry and tightness of weave, making it a desirable collector's item.
