The only other Duiju (Korean Rice Chest) we have ever seen that compares to this one is the very famous one from the Edward Reynolds Wright collection, now bequeathed to the Weisman Art Museum (cf. Traditional Korean Furniture, page 81), and the one in Korea's Ewha University Museum's great collection (cf. The Beauty of Old Korean Furniture, page 113). This all original and unrestored 19th Century Duiju that we offer is the exact twin of the Wright Duiju in size, quality and construction, and even outdoes the Wright piece because it is made entirely of zelkova (only the front panel on the Wright is zelkova). We quote Wright here: "This type of storage box is seen in an 18th Century genre painting by Sin Yun-bok. The handsome use of a large piece of zelkova for the front provides a decorative touch where, pragmatically, none is necessary." 31 x 33.5 x 21 inches, 79 x 85 x 53 cm. Excellent Condition.
