Rare piece of furniture in a simple yet elegant design

This Chinese reclining chair dates to the 19th century. The well-shaped frame made of elmwood features of a curved seat made of bamboo blades with a circular head rest, which stands on straight legs on the front and on curved legs on the back. The curvate armrests are supported by a short, decorative baluster finial. It is the combination of round and square elements, which makes this rare piece of furniture particularly attractive. Chairs of this particular form are called moon-gazing chairs and were mainly used for informal conversations among friends.

The lounge chair is in visually good condition with light signs of age. It shows traces of restoration. The dimensions are 72 x 118 x 71 cm (height x length x width).
