This is a scarce and desirable Mexican Obregon 45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The design is very similar to the Colt Model 1911A1 pistol but with a combination slide and safety latch on the left side of the frame. The pistol was designed for the Mexican military but was not adopted. It is estimated that 1,000 of these pistols were produced and sold commercially, mostly to Mexican military officers. The left side of the slide is marked "Sistema OBREGON/Calibre 11,43" and the right side of the frame is marked "FABRICA NACIONAL DE ARMAS MEXICO PAT No 35053" above the serial number. It has fixed sights, grip safety, and the entire length of the top of the slide is knurled. The combination safety hold open device and takedown lever is 3 5/8 inches long, basically covering the rear half of the left side of the frame above the grip. The grip straps are serrated and the grips are checkered.
