Rare Martially Marked Remington-Beals Army Single Action Percussion Revolver, #1697, .44 cal., 8" octagon barrel, originally blue with case hardened hammer, brass trigger guard, walnut two-piece grips, German silver cone front sight, and fixed "V"-notched rear sight. There is a "WAT" cartouche on right grip and illegible cartouche on the left panel. Inspector proofs "H H" stamped on the left barrel flat at the breech and an "H" is stamped on the front of the brass trigger guard. Top of the barrel is marked in two-lines "BEALS PATENT. SEPT. 14, 1858/MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS ILION, N.Y." Matching visible numbers on left side of the grip frame, underside of the barrel, and back of the cylinder. Mfgd circa 1861-62, with only approx. 750 passing military inspection. Overall condition is about good, with the metal having a gray/brown patina, with light to medium erosion and pitting scattered throughout. Barrel address is legible. Grips with scattered marks from age and use, including a horizontal scratch above the cartouche on the right panel. Left panel has had a neatly accomplished old, spliced repair to the upper round portion. Action is crisp and cycles smoothly. Rifling is clearly visible, bore with moderate+ erosion scattered throughout. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique) (Michael Strietbeck Collection)
