This is an antique Majolica jug in the likeness of the Duke of Wellington. The modeling, painting, and glaze on this jug are masterfully done; the face has a great expression! The first Duke of Wellington was Arthur Wellesley, (1769?1852), the noted Irish-born British career officer and statesman. He is most famous for defeating Napoleon at Waterloo. Dimensions (in inches): 6.5 H X 5.5 D X 4.5 W. Weight: 14.6 Oz. The date is late 19th Century circa 1890. Condition: The underside base and rim foot are glazed with glaze losses on the rim foot (see photos). Additionally, there is fretting and four 1/8 inch or so chips to the top rim, a ¼ inch chip to the outside of the spout that has been over painted in yellow, and fretting to the ears and epaulets. The condition is good with wear; there have been no apparent repairs or restorations. Sold as is as described. Shipping and Insurance by USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. is $15.00.
