Manufacturer: Japanese Model: Type 99
Manufactured at the Howa Jyuko Arsenal in the closing days of World War II after many features and niceties had been discarded in an attempt to increase production. This Series 27 rifle features an Inverted "V" front sight without guards and fixed rear peep sight. The mum has been struck and remains mostly visible on the top of the receiver and the left side is marked with the Serials symbol, serial number and arsenal marking. The partial matching serial number "304" is marked on the bolt and the bayonet lug is un-numbered. Plain cylindrical bolt handle and roughly welded barrel bands. Mounted with a smooth full length hardwood pistol grip stock with wooden buttplate and stock drilled for a rope sling.
BBL: 26 inch round
Stock: hardwood
Gauge: 7.7 mm Japanese

Serial Number: 40304
Condition:
Very fine. The rifle retains 80% original blue finish with scattered areas of smooth brown patina. The mum is ground. The stock is fine with some white paint on the toe of the buttplate and stock, a 1 1/2 inch sliver is absent on top of the comb, and overall some minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The action is fine. Writer cannot recall having another one of these unique historical "last ditch" efforts at attempting to arm the military/civilians at the conclusion of World War II!
