This is a very fine and unique example of a late WWII Nazi VG1 bolt action rifle that lacks the "ac" code produced in the last months of the Third Reich. These rifles represented the Nazi's final attempts to manufacture a simple but serviceable bolt action rifle for the Volksturm. These rifles were produced using the traditional tried and true turning and drilling operators for rifle production. In the manufacturing process they used a piece of simple round bar stock for the receiver, bolt and barrel group. The remaining parts were all produced using the fairly new or innovative approach (for WWII) that consisted of simple sheet metal stamping or welding operations. The only marking on this rifle is a single small letter "O" on top of the receiver with no other markings, which is atypical for the VG rifles we have inspected in the past. The late war beech stock is also unmarked and has a simple flat sheet metal buttplate, cross-bolt and simple sling ring on the left front of the forearm. The rifle is fitted with a basic straight, rough turned barrel that has a simple round turned post front sight that is dovetailed into the top of the barrel, with the rear sight made from a simple stamped sheet metal plate that has been fitted to the front of the receiver. In lieu of the typical K98 style box magazine, this rifle uses the standard K43 magazine. Writer can not recall seeing another example like this one.
BBL: 20 1/2 inch round
Stock: hardwood
Gauge: 8 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 0
Condition: Very fine overall with 80% plus of the original blue finish remaining with the remaining blue finish (mainly on the barrel) having turned a dark plum brown patina color mixed with some old small areas of light rust on the exposed metal surfaces. The stock is in excellent condition with a nice light brown honey color overall with some finish loss and wear on the sides of the buttstock directly in front of the buttplate, with one small crack through the small center wood section, in front of the magazine well area directly behind the front receiver retaining screw. Mechanically excellent. A scarce example of a late WWII VG1 rifle.
