This plunger washing machine was the precursor of our Maytags today! Shaped like a toiler plunger, its action was much the same--while holding the stick handle, one pushed down on it in order to roil the water and the suds to clean the clothes. One pulls up and down on the stick. In effect, this was the first agitator. It represents the next step up from the washboard!

The plunger itself is in a downward cone shape and has sections as shown. The washing machine is 36 inches tall and 1 inch taller when the handle is pulled up. The plunger is 8 5/8 inches in diameter.

The plunger, made of metal, has rust, as one might predict from its advanced age.

This will make an entertaining item for the primitives collector!
