Rare Kiowa Beaded Hide Parfleche Lined Sheath
The lot features a Kiowa beaded hide parfleche lined sheath with mid-1900’s bone handled trade knife. The sheath is comprised of Indian brain-tanned buffalo hide wrapped over thick parfleche rawhide being sinew sewn covered on the front with classic Southern Plains Kiowa geometric beadwork. The beads show colors of chalk white background with pattern in semi-transparent Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow, light padre blue, cobalt. Has a hide belt strap. Earlier pattern sheath from the rare Kiowa. The knife is a Forged Craft circa 1950’s example showing a forged blade with their classic mid-century long rectangular stamping on the spine. The knife has an old bone handle with brass hilt. From the Jim Bastian collection Kansas City, Missouri. Sheath measures 13.75”L with belt tie by 3”W. Knife is 10.25”L.
