<B>Rare Jean Harlow Signed, Handwritten Letter.</B></I> Towards the end of her tragically short life, Jean Harlow began work on a novel which would remain unpublished until 1965, nearly 30 years after her death. Harlow reportedly began work on the book, which she titled <I>Today is Tonight,</B></I> as early as 1933. Included is one of the only Harlow handwritten letters ever to be offered at auction: her two-page note to Sam Marx, a story editor at MGM, regarding a preliminary draft of the book. Harlow writes: "Would you like to call me at your convenience and tell me what you think of the yarn?" In an incredibly ironic twist, Sam Marx was to unravel the mystery behind the scandalous event that could have destroyed Harlow's career: the bizarre "suicide" of her second husband, MGM producer Paul Bern. Almost 60 years after Bern's 1932 death, Marx published <I>Deadly Illusions,</B></I> his investigation into the case, and concluded that the higher powers at MGM prevented the truth of Bern's scandalous murder from being leaked. Eddie Mannix, MGM's scandal "fixer" played a major role in the cover-up, and interestingly enough, Harlow mentions him in this very letter. That's Old Hollywood for you! The 7" x 10.5" letter is in Excellent condition considering its age, with the expected mailing creases and a half-inch nick to upper left corner of second page. The signature, in black ink, is large and clean. Accompanied by the original envelope with Sam Marx's name written in Harlow's hand and her Beverly Glen address printed on the back flap, dating the letter to 1933-1934.
