Lot of 2 different. Both issued by Fair as supt. Both rare. 1) Savage Mine, "Assay Office" handwritten. Issued in 1871 to DW Balch for $250 for 30 days work as assayer. Balch was an important Comstock assayer. He was appointed as the first assayer for the new Mint in Carson City. In August 1869 D.W. Balch took the odd step of recommending a friend, Dr. Wesley Jones, for his position but without actually submitting a resignation. He would go on to hold other assay positions: Savage Assay Office, Comstock Assay Office, etc. 2) Ophir Silver Mining Company. 1878. Issued to a miner for 31 days at $4 per day. Red print.
