JAMES SABIN JR. (1696-1786). 1755 French and Inidan War period Soldier at Fort Crown Point, father of James Sabin (1732-1806) who was so prominent during the GASPEE AFFAIR.
February 23, 1749-Dated, Partially-Printed Document, Choice Very Fine. An original Partially-Printed Document, measuring 6.25” x 3.75”, being a “Promise to Pay” by George Vickers of Attleborough in the County of Bristol (MA.) unto Stephen Paine in the County of Bristol (RI) Two pounds Eleven Shillings and six pence, dated February 23, 1749. Most important, Signed and delivered in presence of “James Sabin junr.” as witness at bototm left. Docket on reverse.
JAMES SABIN JR IS LISTED AS HAVING BEEN A SOLDIER AT CROWN POINT IN 1755. Reference New England History and Genealogical Society French and Indian Wars

He is the James SABIN, Jr (1696-1786) who was the father of James SABIN (1732-1806) who was so prominent during the GASPEE AFFAIR.

There is a record in Bristol Co Court of James SABIN and wife of Attleborough being "warned out" of town in 1770. He may have gone to Providence at that time, but that is just speculation. We know that his son, James(1732-1806) moved into what is known as Sabin's Tavern in 1765

Bristol Co RI was formed from a portion of Bristol Co MA in 1746.

I suggest this is likely the Stephen PAINE (1702 who died in Sept of 1749)

From: Legislators of the MA General Court 1691-1780

Stephen Paine (1702 Bristol MA - 1749 Bristol RI) House of Rep 1737-1740; Bristol Co Court of Common Pleas Judge 1746-1749; Bristol Co Register of Probate 1721-1749; married Priscilla ROYAL; 5 children; farmer, officeholder. Very active with seventeen committes in 1741, etc...

The only information I have on George VICKERS is that he married 1735 Lydia TOWER. She was born 1713, dau of Hezekiah.
