Rare "J. BAERTEN" Signed, Engraved and Gold Inlaid Belgian Browning Superposed Presentation Grade P-1H Skeet Shotgun

This example was manufactured in 1977. There is a chart on page 415 of the book "The Browning Superposed: John M. Browning's Last Legacy" by Ned Schwing that shows that there were only 18 Grade P1 12 gauge skeet shotguns manufactured. There are two gold inlaid relief engraved quail in flight over a grassy field on each side of the receiver. The game scenes are surrounded by an acorn and oak leaf design that also appears on the bottom of the receiver, trigger guard, barrel shoulders and on the sides of the forearm hardware. There is also a floral scroll engraving pattern on all of the aforementioned components. The lower left side of the receiver is signed "J. BAERTEN". The barrels have two white bead sights, are choked skeet/skeet and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. Fitted with a tang mounted safety/selector switch. Mounted on a nicely figured, multi-point checkered beavertail walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with factory recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 3/8 inches.

Excellent, 98% plus of the original blue finish remains on the barrels with some scratches on the left side near the muzzle and some high edge/handling wear. There is a small hole in the solder for both side ribs at the muzzle end of the barrel. 98% plus of the French gray finish remains with some scattered minor scratches, some minor wear and some light oxidation/discoloration. The wood is also excellent with some scattered minor scratches and dings along with some separation of the finish at the stock/recoil pad junction. Mechanically excellent.
