Rare Henry Deringer Model 1842 Percussion Navy Pistol
Model 1842 Navy percussion Pistol from the lot of 1200 pistols manufactured by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia between 1842 and 1847. The Model 1842 Navy percussion pistols were the first percussion pistols manufactured and delivered under government contract. The lock plate stamped "U.S. / DERINGER / PHILADELa" below the hammer. Only 300 were believed to have been accepted by the Navy. The pistol has a brass post front sight on the barrel, no rear sight and integral brass trigger guard. The box lock pistol was finished bright, has a swivel ramrod, brass mountings and a flat round buttcap. The walnut stock has a varnished finish.

Condition: Very good. The metal is bright as period polished with some scattered minor pitting and signs of some cleaning. The brass has a natural aged patina. The reoiled stock is good, with the exception large replaced repair and a 2" hairline crack extending from the left flat screw back, there are only a few scattered minor dings and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clean. The action is very good.
