<td width="100%">
A rare and unusual Late Western / Early Eastern Han incense/candle holder, ca.100BC-AD100. This incense/candle holder was completely hand-formed and not made from a cast. The body is hollow and the holder above the figures head. The depiction is of a seated mother behind her 2 sons and with a tall basket on top of her head that serves as the candle holder. The glaze is a rich lead green glaze that has streaks of blackish-green. The glaze is covered with heavy crackle. The glaze covers the entire candle with exception to inside the vessel (on top of the figural head) and inside the body. The piece shows a strong baojin buildup especially along the top of the piece. Baojin can be best described as mineral infusion into and onto the surface of an artifact. Baojin is formed when such pieces are buried for a long time, with the proper amount of humidity or water, comes into contact with the tomb contents. A fascinating rare speciman.
