Lot of 3. 1-2) Two rare checks for the Goldfield Mohawk Mining Company issued in 1907. One is signed by George Nixon. The other by George Wingfield. George S. Nixon came to Nevada in 1881 and eventually became the cashier of the First National Bank of Winnemucca. There he met a gambler named George Wingfield. Together they formed a partnership and headed for the mining town of Goldfield, where they quickly acquired several of the better mines. Nixon and Wingfield formed the Goldfield Consolidated Mines Co. in 1904. Wingfield, "Mr. Nevada," went from faro-dealer to the richest man in Nevada. Nixon, on the other hand, entered politics and in 1905 became a US Senator from Nevada. The Goldfield Mohawk was incorporated in 1904. Taken over by Nixon and Wingfield in 1906. It was the second largest Goldfield producer. It produced over $6,000,000 for the years 1906 to 1909. [Couch & Carpenter] 3) Nevada First National Bank, Tonopah, 1908, check signed by Vail Pittman. Vail Pittman was a deputy sheriff, newspaperman and state senator before being elected a US Senator. He then was elected the 19th governor of Nevada in 1945.
