Keladi Nayakas,Gold Varaha, Ship Type,Obv: gandaberunda holding some animal in its beak,Rev: a ship with sails clearly seen:fish are also seen in the water,3.45g, 10.38mm,about very fine, Rare.The Reverse has been deciphered now in the article of Gopal and Siddanagowdar in SINS VOLUME XIX printed in 2009 and may be considered as an important coin. It has a ship with the spread sails on it at reverse and well known mythical bird of this region "Gandaberunda" on obverse. It is a well known fact that the Keladi Nayakas had flourishing maritime trade with many other countries. They were also known as the masters of the coastal areas of Karnataka adjoining their Kingdom. Hence the ship with the sails depicted on the reverse of this coin justifies all such coins fromKeladi Dynasty.The name of the ship of the Keladi Chief was "Iswari Mahamayi".
