In the days of Akbar it had acquired special sanctity as the burial place of the Muhammadan saint Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti(RA).Under Jahangir Ajmer became a mint for gold and silver also and from it issued the well known gold coins portraying Jahangir seated with a wine cup in his hand. Shahjahan must have coined very little money at Ajmer, for only a single rupee is known but the mint was revived by Aurangzeb in or about the 30th year of his reign and was working regularly up to its close. The issues were almost same of the rupee, gold coins from this mint are very rare. The obverse contains the usual couplet 'mihr munir', on the reverse Ajmer is Called 'Darul-khair'-the abode of well being.
