Rare G.W. Morse/Burgess patent lever-action carbine manufactured by Marlin, .45-70 caliber, serial #1194. Factory 23” round barrel, full military-type forend surrounded by two bands, in fine to excellent original condition, and pictured in Maxwell’s Lever Action book who states it is the only example made by Marlin using Morse patent of 1856 and Burgess patents of 1873 and 1875. The carbine shows 95-98% original bright blue finish, some minor scratches, minor toning, and just minimal aging. The barrel bands show 90-95% blue. The forend cap and buttplate shows strong cases of case hardening drifting to grey. The rear sight shows considerable original case hardening and is a two-leaf flip-up type. The stocks are fine to excellent. A 3-piece cleaning rod remains in the butt trap that we are confident is the original as it is completely unique. The hammer shows 75-85% case hardening. The trigger shows original finish. The action is tight, the bore excellent. A rar opportunity to obtain the only known example which is in impeccable condition. Est: $12,500 - $25,000
