Rare Fremont & Dayton Campaign Flag, 13" x 11" on 19" wooden stick, 1856. Coarse white linen imprinted with "Fremont and Dayton!" on one side and bleeding through to verso. Attached to the flag with two period pins is an early manuscript note reading,"This was used in Campaign Ralleys of the Presidential election of 1856". Overall light browning as expected with moderate soiling and only minimal fraying along edges. Very good condition. The stick which supports the flag is split and can easily be re-glued as desired. This rare flag is an extremely important relic of American political and social history in that it promotes the very first Republican presidential ticket and the very first candidate with a unabashedly anti-slavery agenda.

Shipping: Large Collectibles (view shipping information)
