Colt manufactured only approximately 15,500 of these revolvers from 1847 to 1850. This revolver was manufactured in 1849, the first year of production, and most likely the first month. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW-YORK CITY", "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame and the matching serial number is marked on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, back strap, wedge and cylinder pin. "COLTS / PATENT" is also marked on the cylinder as well as the roll engraved Texas Ranger/Indian scene. The cylinder has the round stops, the trigger guard is the squareback variation, the barrel and cylinder were finished blue, the frame and hammer casehardened and the trigger guard and fitted with a one piece varnished walnut grip.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 30% of the original blue finish mainly in the protected areas and on the front edge of the cylinder. The barrel has some minor pitting and an area near the breech appears to have some hammering marks . The cylinder retains nearly all of the clear and crisp scene. The hammer and frame have a smooth gray patina with 30% soft original case colors in the recoil shield cut-out and in the protected areas below the recoil shield. The trigger guard and back strap retain at least 95% original silver plating, with is beginning to darken with age in areas. The little bit of exposed brass has an aged patina. The grip is very fine with 95% original varnish, some lower edge wear and a few minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
