Rare First Generation Colt Bisley Flat Top Target Revolver in the Desirable 38 Colt Cartridge

This is a very rare Colt Bisley Flattop Target Model Single Action revolver as manufactured in late 1907. The Bisley Target revolver series was produced and sold right after Colt came out with the standard Colt SAA flattop target models and had two unique features: 1) an elongated pistol grip area and 2) a redesigned/lowered hammer spur. The longer frame prevent the pistol from riding up in the hand while shooting like the SAA did and the redesigned hammer made it easier to cock the pistol with minimal hand movement. This specific pistol is also chambered in the "38 Colt" which was again designed specifically for target shooting and was one of the more popular Colt cartridges of the day also being chambered it the U.S. Army Model 1894 revolver. The barrel is roll-stamped in one line on top "COLT'S P.T. FA. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the left side marked "(BISLEY MODEL) 38 COLT". The left side of the frame is marked with the "two-line/three patent" date markings followed by the circled Colt Rampant Horse trademark. It has the target rear sight dovetailed into top strap. (adjustable for windage only) with the German silver blade front sight. The revolver has a high polish, full blue finish, with the niter blued trigger, action screws, and cross-pin with a color casehardened hammer. It is fitted with the hard rubber two-piece brown grips with impressed checkering with the Colt Rampant Horse trademark in an oval at the top of each grip panel. The full serial number "295415" is visible on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the serial numbers match including the grips. Total Bisley Flattop production was reportedly 976 revolvers.

Manufucture: Colt

BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 38 Colt
Finish: blue
Grips: Gutta Percha

Excellent with 95% of the blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with extremely minor blue loss on the recoil shield, loading gate and muzzle area. There is also some light scattered patches of surface rust on right side of revolver. The grips are also excellent with a nice original appearance with very fine color overall with nice distinct checkering. Mechanically excellent. An excellent example of an early Colt Bisley Flattop target revolver.
