This fire gilt bronze figure represents Buddha Maitreya and was created in the 20th century Tibet. In Buddhist thought, he is the Buddha of the future, and is also called ‘The Lovely and Rich’. Here he is seated in thebhadrâsana seat with dangling legs on a throne. He is holding his hands in front of his chest in the gesture of teaching the law of the wheel, thedharmacakra Mudra. Two lotus flowers rise up to his shoulders and embed both the wheel of the teaching and a holy water vessel. The figure is wearing precious jewelry and the open work ribbons of his garment surround his sides. His head is adorned with a five leave crown and a high topknot rises behind. The serene countenance and his grandeur are emphasized by the deep neck wrinkles as well as by the overly long earlobes.

The Buddha figure is in good condition with natural patina and slight signs of age and wear. Some gold wear and minimal loss of material under the right arm is visible. The height measures 32.5 cm, the width as well as the depth 17 cm.
