Rare Factory Patriotic Engraved Lindsay Two Shot Pocket Percussion Pistol

This rare and unusual pistol was invented by John P. Lindsay and manufactured in the early 1860s in extremely limited quantities with only several hundred produced. The pistol has a single barrel that holds two superposed loads. The right rear of the barrel has the address marking and a scroll engraving. The left rear of the barrel is engraved with a flag and shield motif flanked by a large lion and eagle. The bottom barrel flat is marked "PATENT'D. FEB. 8. 1859/PATENT'D. OCT. 9. 1860" and the serial number "843" is marked just ahead of the frame. The left side of the brass frame is engraved with a stag and a dog is engraved on the right (a scroll engraving is more common). The serial number is also on the frame under the grips.

Good. The barrel has traces of blue with the balance a smooth gray patina with an area of minor pitting on the right side. The frame has smooth patina with an illegible marking and a number of small dings no the butt. The crude replacement grips are fair with some wear on the bottom edges and a few minor handling marks. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically fine.
