Manufactured in 1915. The receiver has a scroll and leaf design with a bear in a wooded scene on the lower left rear and two deer on the upper right side. The takedown ring has the same pattern. There is a gold inlaid band around the breech end of the barrel and a scroll design on each side. The top of the bolt has a scallop and dot design with the same scroll pattern at the rear. The left rear of the barrel is marked "---NICKEL STEEL BARREL--- / ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" and ".30 U.S. MOD. 1903" on the left at the breech, as well as a Winchester oval proof on top. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1895 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK" with a simple line border and a wedge of scroll directly behind the hammer. Ramped blade front and two folding leaf rear sights, receiver mounted peep sight and mounted with a checkered forearm with horn forend insert and straight grip stock with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. It is difficult to find engraved Model 95s partly due to the receiver panels and high cost of engraving. This rifle is pictured and briefly described in George Madis' book, "The Winchester Handbook" on page 153. Madis states "Engraving of this style is a true work of art, equal to any work in any medium, in the opinion of this writer."
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 30 U.S.
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 76274
Condition: Fine with 60% thin blue finish on the barrel mixed with smooth mottled brown patina and a few patches of minor pitting. The receiver retains 50% blue finish (mainly in the protected areas) with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The lever has a smooth mottled patina. The magazine retains 60% blue with areas thinned to a smooth brown and wear from normal use of the lever. The forearm was broken and repaired at the screw, there are two notches on the right side of the wrist, otherwise the wood is very good with a few scattered minor dents and scratches, and crisp checkering. Note, the forearm is tightly secured and fearing damage writer was unable to remove to check for any additional markings on the barrel. The markings and engraving remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
