The included Colt factory letter confirms the caliber, blue finish, class "A" factory engraving and lanyard swivel with type of stocks not listed and a 5 inch barrel at time of shipment. The revolver was sold to Griffin & How, New York and shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch, New York on March 11, 1940 on order number 8925 as a single gun shipment. This revolver is engraved with approximately 25% coverage of open vine scroll without punch dot. The rear sides of the barrel, cylinder flats, frame, top strap, backstrap, butt and trigger guard all have flourishes of the open vine scroll engraving. In addition the revolver features the standard barrel markings and is fitted with checkered walnut grips with silver medallions and a lanyard swivel on the butt. Deep checkering has been cut into the hammer, trigger and grip straps. With a non-matching maroon Colt box and most of the blue label.

Condition: Very good with 95% original blue finish on the frame and cylinder. The refinished barrel retains 99% finish, showing a mixed gray patina on the cylinder and backstrap, along with a few spots of bright gray on the high edges and minor handling marks overall. Grips are excellent, with light pressure dents and crisp checkering. Box is good, with some material loss and separation at the edges. Action is excellent.
