Rare Factory Engraved Silver-Plated Presentation Volcanic Carbine, by New Haven Arms, #2064, .41 cal., 16'' barrel, as presented by J.R. Morris to Major H.F. Beebe of the 38th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Silver presentation plaque features crossed American and Confederate flags, as well as Federal eagle-topped shield, with presentation over Masonic compass and square. As Beebe traveled South with Sherman burning homes and buildings, he came upon the plantation of James Morris, and upon discovering that he was active in Free Masonry, spared his plantation from destruction. Upon the cessation of hostilities, Morris presented this rifle to Major Beebe. Included are Beebe's wallet, carte d'visite, several documents of promotion, his 1865 dated diary, and a 1901 memorial service program for Beebe. Condition is about fine with crisp engraving to brass frame, with fair amounts of silver remaining. Barrel shows mixed blue/gray patination with full side ribs and nickel silver front sight. Stock has been repaired at wrist at one point, which could be somewhat improved upon. Action remains crisp, bore appears unfired. This particular firearm is fresh to market and has not been seen by either dealers or collectors in almost 150 years. Est.: $35,000-$50,000. (Antique)
