Rare Experimental Factory Retained Left-Handed Winchester Model 1400 Semi-Automatic Shotgun, unserialized prototype, 12 ga., 28'' vent rib barrel choked Full, blue finish, pressed checkered select walnut stock, with Winchester red rubber butt pad, red front bead sight, small bright center bead, and small aluminum Winchester Property plaque stamped ''W-478'' taped to left lower cheekpiece area of stock for internal factory inventory. Barrel is hand-stamped ''12 GA-LH'', with offset circled Winchester proof to left side of rib. Receiver, bolt and internal mechanisms are made in the near mirror image of the standard production type. From the late 1950s thru the mid-1960s, Winchester experimented with many different innovative sales designs, this being one of the few prototypes that found its way into private hands. This left-handed version, however, never became a production model, and this is the only known example of a left-handed Winchester semi-automatic shotgun, fitted with select furniture for promotional reasons. Condition is excellent showing just the lightest use from testing, with just minor impressions to the forend of stock. Action remains crisp, bore is mirror bright. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Modern)
