Rare Experimental .70-150 Winchester Express Centerfire Cartridge, with only one rifle ever mfg'd to fire them. This cartridge appeared on Winchester Cartridge Boards in 1888. Many have since gone missing and few original examples are known to exist today. Copies have been mfg'd from neckdown brass 12 ga. Winchester shotgun shells; they are often found with the words ''Winchester No. 12'' stamped on base. This example is completely original with unmarked base and two holes placed vertically in the casing for placement on the 1888 cartridge board by wire. Projectile, although .70 cal., is very similar to the .50 Express cartridge in that it has a hollow point that is filled with a copper cup modeled after English bullets of the time. Copper cup is marked with ''X''. Condition is excellent with light to just toning and lacquer loss to brass casing. Copper expansion cup shows minor tarnishing. (Walt Hallstein collection) Est.: $1,200-$1,800.
