Rare European Awarded Central Africa Medal

Estimate: $2250 - 4000
This is a rare example of a British Central Africa Medal (1891 to 1898) that was awarded to Under Officer G.A.C. Sorrell of the Royal Niger Chartered Company. This medal was issued to mainly local forces with the medal rarely awarded to Europeans such as this example. The silver medal is a first issue with a ring suspension and is without a clasp. The obverse and reverse is of the East and West Africa (Ashantee) Medal but is distinguished by its ribbon. The ribbon has the correct three equal stripes of black, white and terracotta which represent Africans, Europeans and Indians.
