Rare Engraved, Silver Mounted, and Gold Banded Henry Deringer Pocket Pistol with Curry Brothers San
Inheriting the arms business and Deringer agent status from their father Charles in 1863, the Curry brothers, Nathaniel and John, sold the firm to Charles Ladd in 1886. German silver blade front and notch rear sights, with "P" bordered by zig-zag engraving on the left side of the breech, "DERINGER / PHILADELA'' on top, and "N.CURRY & Bro/ SAN FRANCo CALa/ AGENTS" on the top flat of the barrel. A pair of 18k gold bands are inlayed on the breech, with the distinctive striped gray finish strong on the barrel. The "PHILADELA" address is repeated on the lock, with scroll engraving on the tang, hammer, lock, German silver trigger guard, shield escutcheon, reverse and accent pates, blossom designs on the escutcheons, sunburst design on the bolster, zig-zag bordered buttplate and a pineapple trigger guard finial. Engraving is nearly full coverage on several parts, along with fancy borders. Checkered tiger stripe walnut stock with a German silver wedge Schnabel tip inlay and a capbox set into the bird's head butt. A fine example of a high end agent marked Philadelphia Deringer.

Very fine, with 70% of the original brown finish, with well defined decorative streaks on the deep brown, a few patches of bright gray and minor spotting. Casehardened parts are turning a smooth gray patina, with bright and vivid case colors on and around the hammer. Fine stock, with some thin cracks, varnish loss and attractive grain. Silver is excellent, with a dark patina forming on most parts. Mechanically excellent.
