Rare English Provincial Silver Tea Kettle of globular shape with moulded scroll spout and swing handle, engraved with a border of strapwork enclosing masks and stylized flowers and leaves at the rim, ht. 9.8"" - 25 cm., 56.9 oz. - 1769 grams, probably Guildford, c.1730-40, maker: Richard Croker The mark of RC with a bird [see back cover] originally was found on table spoons in the collection of The Rev. Harry G. Topham. It was recorded by Sir Charles Jackson in his 1921 edition of English Goldsmiths and Their Marks, along with London makers (name not traced), c.1740. The same mark has since been attributed by David Barker to Richard Croker of Guildford in Ian Pickford's 1989 revision of Jackson's work.
