Rare Edward H. Bohlin Headstall, Breast Collar & Bit
Extremely scarce and very early Edward H. Bohlin maker-marked brown floral carved headstall with 1” horseshoe, 3-piece buckle sets. The browband is attached with a 2 1/2” sterling scalloped concho with raised Indian Head, the cheek conchos appear hand made (possibly by Ed himself) and do not look die-struck. Bit is silver overlaid, maker-marked with the raised initials BG in yellow gold, with period rawhide reins. The leather headstall and virtually all the silver is Bohlinmade marked. The matching Breastcollar is adorned with the same pattern conchos. Some of the leather is fragile but all the silver is in fine condition showing early, aged, rich patina. Undeniably, one of the earliest phase one Bohlin pieces to be sold at auction. The buckle sets and bit by themselves are probably worth the low estimate, c. 1920s
