Spencer Carbines were converted into long barrel rifles for the military in 1871 by the Springfield Arms Factory. This gorgeous is serial number 18xx and is one of the early guns converted. It is fitted with a three grove rifled barrel with double barrel bands and lanyards both on the barrel and stock.It has the military inspector Cartouche just behind the saddle ring., It also has a folding rear ladder sight. The breech says; “SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE PAT’D MARCH 6 1860 MANUFACTURED AT PROV. RI. BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO. MODEL 1865” It has a 32”rifled barrel and a cleaning rod under the barrel. Beautiful and rare repeating rifle that one like it was used by Abraham Lincoln and Christopher Spencer to personally test fire on the White House grounds in 1863.Excellent original specimen of a rare seven shot repeater in beautiful Original condition with Original 1865 Cartouche still in place.
