Rare Early Production Civil War Smith & Wesson Number Two Single Action Revolver, Factory Documented
According to the Smith & Wesson factory records (Roy Jinks letter included), this revolver was shipped out on August 23, 1861 to J.W. Starrs of New York City, with 6 inch barrel, blue finish and rosewood grips. Starrs was both an investor in Smith & Wesson and the firms sole agent from 1856 to 1869. German silver blade front sight and notch rear, with "SMITH. & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD, MASS." on top of the barrel and the ejector secured to the lug, which is numbered "34" along with the assembly mark of "E4". Unfluted cylinder, with patent dates on the outer surface and "E4" on the face. Frame is numbered "281" on the butt and "E4" on the left side under the grips, which are two piece smooth rosewood with matching serial number inside the right panel.

Condition: Very fine, with 70% of the bright original high polish blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge wear, scattered spotting and light handling marks overall. Grips are fine, with exception of a tiny amount of filler material in the right toe, minor scratches and pressure dents, and minimal varnish loss. Mechanically excellent.
