Rare Early Pre-War Walther Engraved Model PP Pistol with "AB" Initials Molded into the Grips in Scarce 9 mm Kurz

This is a beautiful example of an early Walther factory engraved presentation grade Model PP pistol that is chambered in the 9 mm Kurz caliber (380 Auto). This exquisite pistol was fully engraved in a very scarce ornamental vine/floral pattern with geometric borders that covers 98% of the metal surface. Additionally the center section of the left side of the slide also features a very unique spray of small "Edelweiss Flowers" that is framed by its own border. This pattern of vine/floral engraving with small Edelweiss flowers is very rarely seen and usually done only on special order. The markings on the left side of the slide and frame have also all been framed or outlined in an engraved panel with floral pattern engraving going right up to the edge of the panel, the geometric pattern on the borders and edges of the frame and slide, front and rear grip straps. As noted this is a early pattern pistol, that has the 60 degree safety which has also been fully engraved, along with the magazine release on the bottom of the frame which is correct for pistols chambered in 9 mm Kurz. The left side of the slide has the "Walther Banner" followed by the two line, factory address/patent markings of "Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/Walther's Patent Cal 9 m/m" followed by "MOD PP". The right side of the frame and slide have the "eagle/N" commercial proofmarks located on the right side of the barrel and directly below that on the slide below the ejection port. The grips are also very unique in that the back side of the left grip is slightly thicker and has a custom "AB" monogram disc, inset directly into the side of the grip. This disc is held on by a single screw that comes through the back side of the grip which is why it had to be manufactured slightly thicker. This is certainly only something that would have been done by the Walther factory on a special order basis. The serial number is stamped vertically on the right side of the frame. The magazine has a black plastic extension and is marked with the Walther banner just above the floor plate.

Very fine with 85% of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with beautiful meticulous engraving that could only be performed by a Master Engraver at the Walther factory. The grips are also very fine overall with nice distinct checkering on both sides and with that unique "AB" monogram inset on the left side. A superb early pre-WWII Presentation Grade Engraved Walther Model PP pistol.
