This is an excellent example of a early prewar Krieghoff "S" code German Luger as manufactured in limited quantities for the Luftwaffe, that reportedly was originally in the prestigious Sid Aberman Automatic Pistol Collection. This Luger is somewhat unique as the serial number is exactly "1500", so all the small parts have the "00" markings on each piece. These even numbered lugers have always commanded a high collector's interest and with this one being a Luftwaffe Krieghoff contract, this would be the center piece of any advance Luger collection. The top of the chamber is marked with the large "S" code" indicating manufacture in 1936, of which there were only about 4000 "S" code Lugers manufactured during this year. The pistol is an mid-production variation marked with the "H / K" on each side of the Krieghoff Anchor with only "SUHL", below that on the toggle. It has the typical military style serial number placement with the full serial number(1500) on the front frame, the left side of the receiver, with the last two digits (00) on the side plate, rear toggle assembly, trigger, take down lever and side plate. Interestingly enough, the internal number on the middle toggle length is "15" with the completion "00" on the external side (1500). The breechblock carries the last three digits, "500". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the eagle acceptance proofs with the Krieghoff "eagle/2" Luftwaffe acceptance proofs followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "eagle/2" proof, with a second small eagle/2 proof on the very front edge of the frame rail. The underside of the barrel is marked only with the bore diameter and a single small "eagle/2" proof. The pistol is fitted with an original set of early checkered brown plastic grips that were made by the Ritzman company. The back side of each grip panel has the small mold marks that consist of a small circular proof, followed by the molded in number "8964" followed by the small intertwined "HRS" logo of the Hermann Ritzman & Sons company. It is fitted with the original and matching pre-war Krieghoff magazine that has a nickel plated magazine body with the aluminum base that is marked "1500" with the number "1" and small eagle/2 proof mark, correctly backwards over the serial number.
